William "Kyle" Carpenter'stown hall meeting with Marines and sailors from II Marine ExpeditionaryForce and subordinate commands at the Base Theater aboard Marine Corps BaseCamp Lejeune, June 27. During his visit to the base, Carpenter also touredthe Wounded Warrior Battalion-East complex, visited with Marines from hisformer command 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, and had lunch with Marines from2nd Marine Division battalions. Carpenter earned the nation's highestmilitary award for his actions in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in November2010 when he saved another Marine's life by shielding him from a grenadeblast during an enemy attack.
