Part one of a three part series: Cpl. Andrew Salabarria, a Staten Island, N.Y., native and turret gunner with Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), talks about his position as the gunner in the lead navigation vehicle for convoys through Helmand province, Afghanistan. Salabarria serves as the eyes, ears and protective shield for convoys of up to 40 vehicles pushing through rugged desert terrain where possible attacks and improvised explosive devices are a constant threat.
