VMM-261 Marines, Dutch Navy Perform First MV-22 Osprey Carrier Landing aboard a Dutch Warship

Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 landed a MV-22 Osprey onto a Dutch warship during an interoperability test conducted near Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 12, 2015. The landing aboard the Karel Doorman, a warship with the Royal Netherlands Navy was the first MV-22 Osprey landing onto a Dutch ship. This test allowed the two units to assess their capabilities and their ability to integrate the two units.

Norwegian Ambassador Kare Aas visits Carolina MAGTF

U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and U.S. Marine Corps Air Station New River welcomed Norwegian Ambassador Kåre R. Aas, Norwegian Army Lt. Col. Per-Erik Bjøernstadbråten, Norwegian Defense Attaché Rear Adm. Ole M. Sandquist, and Norwegian Military Attaché and Assistant Defense Attaché Colonel Magne Rodahl during their visit to the base and its air wing. U.S. Marines have been forward deployed on a rotational basis to Norway, strengthening the bonds by working hand-in-hand with the Norwegian military. By doing so, the two nations build on interoperability with not only Norwegian allies, but with partners across Europe. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Heather Atherton)

First CH-53K King Stallion arrives at MCAS New River

The first CH-53K King Stallion taxis across the flight line at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina May 16, 2018. The aircraft’s delivery to MCAS New River marks another on-time milestone for the U.S. Marine Corps' future heavy-lift helicopter program. Personnel with Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 will bring the CH-53K into the supportability test plan, where they will conduct a logistical assessment on the maintenance, sustainment and overall logistics support of the King Stallion. The CH-53K is meant to replace the Marine Corp’s fleet of CH-53E heavy-lift helicopters. The King Stallion has several upgrades over the legacy aircraft including a digital glass cockpit and fly-by-wire controls. It can externally transport 27,000 lbs. over 110 nautical miles and has a max external lift of 36,000 lbs., three times that of the legacy “E” aircraft. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Sgt. Corporal Anthony Novelly, a collateral duty inspector with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, was awarded the II MEF Marine of the Year award, March 20, 2015. Novelly stood out above his peers and the Marines he competed against, throughout the selection process for the award, and received the award from Maj. Gen. Joint Engineering Effort Builds Bridges Between U.S. Army, Marines

Combat engineers from Marine Wing Support Squadron 272, based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., perform general maintenance on several Mark II bridge erection boats on an improved ribbon bridge spanning a section of the Helmand River, outside Combat Outpost Payne, Afghanistan, May 12. The Marines also aided the Army with manning guard posts, assisting convoys with getting across the bridge and monitoring the river. The Marines and U.S. Army Soldiers used the boats to keep the bridge steady and make adjustments to the bridge bays when needed. Produced by Cpl. Rashaun X. James. Also available in high definition.
