U.S. Marines with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)) Ground Combat Element aboard the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19) conduct maritime reconnaissance while operating in the Mediterranean Sea, Feb. 6, 2024. The small boat detachment’s capability to conduct maritime interdiction operations and maritime reconnaissance assist in allowing the 26th MEU(SOC) to uphold maritime security and sea control. The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 26th MEU(SOC), is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., Allied and partner interests.
