Colonel Mike Sweeney graduated from the University of Central Florida and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1988.
Prior to joining II MHG, Colonel Sweeney was assigned to U.S. European Command, where he served as the Chief, Joint Operations Center within the J-3.
Colonel Sweeney’s operational and staff assignments include: Platoon Commander and S-6, 2d Marine Regiment; Executive Officer, 2d Marine Regiment; Company Commander, Fox Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC; G-6 Operations Officer, 2d Marine Division; Aide-de-Camp, CG, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty Nine Palms California; G-6 MCRD PISC; and Operations Officer, Marine Corps Communications Electronics School, Twenty Nine Palms, California, C2 Integration Officer, C-3, Coalition Forces Land Component Command, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom; Division Chief, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4); and Commanding Officer, 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Colonel Sweeney holds a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a Master of Science Degree in Systems Technology (Command, Control, and Communications) from the Naval Postgraduate and a Master of Business Administration from National University.
His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with three Gold Stars, Joint Commendation Medal, and the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
