Small Unit Training
Deployable Virtual Training Environment (or DVTE)
Welcome to the II MEF Simulation Center: Deployable Virtual Training Environment (or DVTE). This suite of simulation applications supports the training of Marines from the individual all the way up to staff level. Simulation augments live training by enabling units to execute complex missions in advance of live exercises, significantly reducing operational costs in terms of force protection, time and resources. Ultimately, the use of available simulation resources, such as DVTE, significantly increases the readiness of operating forces.

Any small unit leader can schedule DVTE in as little as thirty minutes. DVTE provides several pre-made, or “turn-key,” scenarios to support a Pre-deployment Training Program or Training & Readiness standards with minimum coordination. Turn-key scenarios focus on training requirements such as Call for Fire, Joint Terminal Air Control, IED Defeat, Reporting Procedures, and Decision Making Skills. Simply contact the II MEF Simulation Center in order to set up a training location and time.

With additional coordination, the Simulation Center also develops custom scenarios to meet your unit’s specific training requirements. The Simulation Center has developed custom scenarios for command-and-control operations, convoy operations, dismounted patrols, and TRAP. DVTE also offers simulated aerial surveillance and GBOSS feed to support a wide array of operations. DVTE also supports mission rehearsal and planning. Our simulation software replicates all weapons and vehicles fielded by the Marine Corps. DVTE offers a variety of virtual terrain, including 29 Palms, Iraq and Afghanistan.

DVTE offers complete After Action Review capture and playback of your unit’s training event. Our AAR system offers three-dimensional playback capabilities such as: stop, pause, rewind and fast forward from an aerial view of any place on the battlefield or the first person perspective for any player. AAR functionality even includes a bullet camera to track where rounds land, statistical data and a complete audio recording of all communication passed in execution.

DVTE is capable of integrating with organic command-and-control systems such: Blue Force Tracker (or BFT), CPoF, C2PC, AFATDS, and Strike-link. DVTE simulations link seamlessly to your organic command-and-control systems to better prepare communicators and increase realism for decision-makers.

For those units that already possess their own suites, the Simulation Center DVTE Section assists in training and preparing your unit for using DVTE to its fullest potential. Our Mobile Unit Sustainment Training (or MUST) team reaches out to units with DVTE , to update software, perform troubleshooting, train users on DVTE setup and offer guidance for DVTE training. For more advanced users, the II MEF Simulation Center offers a monthly two-week Train the Trainer course that prepares DVTE users to generate and execute their own scenarios.

Today, Marine units are experiencing a reduction in training resources. The training supported by the Deployable Virtual Training Environment is funded by the II Marine Expeditionary Force, which does not impact your unit’s operating budget and is available to all Marines from the MEF, Division, Wing, MLG and Marine Corps Base. In FY 2011, training with DVTE saved Marine units over $22 Million. With the Marine Corps facing budget cuts, simulation offers Marines a cost efficient answer to safe and effective training. Scheduling your next DVTE training event is easy. Just give us a call.
