U.S. Navy Chief Quartermaster Edward Roth, assigned to USS New Orleans (LPD 18), applies chalk to the bar during a weightlifting meet aboard LPD 18 in the Sea of Japan, Sept. 4, 2022. The “1,000 Pound Club” is a weightlifting event where participants must lift a cumulative one thousand pounds in squat, bench, and deadlift. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.
