Sgt. Bradley Smith (far left), from Shawnee, Okla., a scout observer with 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), looks on as Staff Sgt. Vincent Bartczak, a Cleveland native and joint tactical air controller with 2nd ANGLICO, discusses a patrol route with British Army Maj. Matt Collins, a Windsor, England, native and kandak commander advisor for the 1st Battalion Irish Guard’s Brigade Advisory Group, during Operation Omid Shash, Feb. 17, in Gereshk, Helmand province, Afghanistan. Second ANGLICO Marines and sailors have been supporting several U.S. and coalition units in Helmand province with their unique ability to coordinate tactics on the ground with aviation and other supporting arms assets since arriving in Afghanistan in November. During Omid Shash, 2nd ANGLICO Marines provided coalition and Afghan National Army units maneuvering through the area of operation access to virtually any aviation asset “on station” for intelligence gathering or, if need arose, decisive firepower to defeat Taliban insurgents.
