MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE – -- The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit was awarded the II Marine Expeditionary Force Unit Award for Ground Safety Excellence by Lt.Gen. James F. Amos, commanding general, II MEF, March 16.
“Safety is part of the way we do business,” said Amos, who also discussed the role of safety in force preservation.
Capt. Scott S. Peters, 26th MEU air officer and air safety officer, was awarded the II MEF Award for Initiative in Ground Safety.
According to Col. Jeffrey A. White, II MEF Chief of Staff, Peters’ efforts were pivotal in the MEU’s ability in achieving their “impressive” record.
Both awards covered time periods during which 26th MEU was in deployed to U.S. Central Command and U.S. European Command.
