MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- II Marine Expeditionary Force Marines are training hard, getting mentally prepared and sending volleys down range - the driving range.
The II MEF Commanding General Invitational golf tournament was held at Paradise Point Golf Course, April 21.
The tournament was a four-man scramble, best ball. Thirty teams registered for the tournament, which was open to all ranks within II MEF and subordinate commands.
A team from 8th Communications Battalion won the tournament, however all the excitement came during a playoff hole for third place between 2nd Marine Division motor transport and the II MEF staff secretary’s office.
Col. Jeffrey A. White, chief of staff, II MEF, barely missed a putt, which gave Division motor transport third place.
Lt. Gen. James Amos, commanding general, II MEF, said he hopes to have more tournaments, and acknowledged Lance Cpl. Scott Powell, logistics chief, II MEF G-7 Simulations Center, as the gutsiest lance corporal in II MEF for his comments leading up to the tournament. (See II MEF Marines challenge fellow golfers).
Amos gave Powell and his team, who lost to the general’s team, II MEF commanding general golf ball markers and signed a copy of their story.
