Marines with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion fired the Mk154 Mine Clearance Launcher aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Sept. 19, 2015, as part of a qualification for the weapon system. During the exercise, the unit fired six inert line charges to prepared themselves for future employment of the system.

The door disintegrated into small, wooden shards and burning embers as the explosive charge ripped a hole in the building and showered the line of combat engineers with debris. Six Marines with Bridge Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group poured through the gap as another team shattered a window at the rear of the building during the unit’s demolition and breaching exercise here, Jan. 18.

Afghan residents had been forced to leave their homes due to the dangers imposed by heavy IED emplacement throughout the town and insurgent activity in the area. Marines with 1/6 are clearing insurgents from Sangin to Kajaki along Route 611 to make it safe for Afghan residents, local government officials, and coalition forces.
