Combat Lifesaver is a course designed to teach Marines how to save someone’s life in a combat environment. During the three-day class, Marines learn how to give intravenous (IV), apply tourniquets and regulate the respiratory system. The Marines are with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, which is a forward deployed unit from Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, to 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force based in Okinawa, Japan. The Marine Corps’ best combat engineer squads competed in the first installment of the SAPPER Squad Competition at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 20-24. The competition was a series of skill-based challenges that all combat engineers must be able to perform in the most proficient manner.
