Dutch Marines traveled nearly 1,600 miles to conduct bilateral training with U.S. Marines with II Marine Expeditionary Force during a weeklong exercise at Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 21-24, 2017. The training increases interoperability between the Korps Mariniers and U.S. Marines working side-by-side as partner nations. These Dutch Marines, stationed in Aruba, welcome the opportunity to work in the cooler temperatures and urban training environment offered by North Carolina. In turn, U.S. Marines will travel to Aruba to perfect their tactics in a hot climate and perform multiple dive operations on the island. Allied and partner nation service members participate in Bold Alligator 16.

Royal Dutch Navy Lt. Cmdr. Mirko Kessen is one of many allied and partner-nation service members integrated into the staff of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Expeditionary Strike Group 2 during Bold Alligator 16. Kessen is serving as an ESG-2 current operations planning officer during the exercise, which is taking place along the eastern seaboard Aug 15-26, 2016. Both staffs will plan and execute a MEB-sized amphibious assault from a sea base in a medium land and maritime threat environment and anti-access/area denial environment to improve naval amphibious core competencies.

Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 landed a MV-22 Osprey onto a Dutch warship during an interoperability test conducted near Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 12, 2015. The landing aboard the Karel Doorman, a warship with the Royal Netherlands Navy was the first MV-22 Osprey landing onto a Dutch ship. This test allowed the two units to assess their capabilities and their ability to integrate the two units.
