Marines with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion participated in a Counter Improvised Explosive Device Course at SR-12 aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, March 4, 2015. The Marines participated in the course to become more efficient at the various aspects of being a combat engineer.

Approximately 100 Marines with II Marine Expeditionary Force participated in Exercise Atlantic Response 12 aboard Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue Field near Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Aug. 21-23. Atlantic Response is a scenario-driven, simulation-supported exercise designed to develop the command staff’s ability to rapidly respond to today’s emerging crises using today’s middle-weight force. Afghan residents had been forced to leave their homes due to the dangers imposed by heavy IED emplacement throughout the town and insurgent activity in the area. Marines with 1/6 are clearing insurgents from Sangin to Kajaki along Route 611 to make it safe for Afghan residents, local government officials, and coalition forces.
