U.S. Marine Corps Officer Selection Teams, from 6th Marine Corps District, prepare Marine Corps officer candidates, from the state of Florida, for Officer Candidate School during a three-day miniature OCS at Tiger Bay State Park in Daytona, Florida, March 11, 2022. U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion and the Office of Naval Research participated in joint training at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Oak Grove, Feb. 28 - March 3, 2022. At the start of the training, the Marines created damage, such as craters and spalls, across the airfield to simulate destruction caused by unexploded ordinance (UXO). Together, the Marines and Office of Naval Research evaluated if their unmanned aircraft systems could scan the airfield and assess the damage quicker and more efficiently than ground personnel.
