U.S. Marines from the Chemical/Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) conduct the Capital Shield Exercise at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Sept. 24, 2021. The purpose of the exercise is to support the national capital region through the transportation of vehicles, supplies, and personnel using the Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCAC). This annual exercise was designed to sharpen the operational readiness and capabilities of working in a joint environment. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. CBIRF was activated in April of 1996 by Gen. Charles C. Krulak, 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps, to counter the effects of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incidents.

The Chemical Biological Incident Response Force and Assault Craft Unit-4 worked together during Exercise Capital Shield, Sept. 3-6, 2019, in Maryland. The purpose of the exercise is to work on the speed of maneuver from Stump Neck, Maryland to the Washington D.C. area via Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCACs). The Marines and Sailors worked together to on and offload the CBIRF vehicles from an LCAC.

Pacific Horizon is a Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) exercise designed to train I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) and components of Naval Beach Group 1 (NBG-1) Marines and Sailors on arrival and assembly operations as well as follow-on Marine Air Ground Task Force actions to ensure that the right equipment, supplies and tools get to the right people to be employed in a crisis response, humanitarian assistance and amassing combat power ashore from sea.
