SgtMaj Moss is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and enlisted in the Marine Corps in Nov. 1998. A graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, SgtMaj Moss has degrees in Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, and Forensic Science.
SgtMaj Moss graduated recruit training from MCRD San Diego as Company Honor Grad and was meritoriously promoted to LCpl.
After graduating Personnel Administration School, SgtMaj Moss executed orders to Cherry Point, NC. Here SgtMaj Moss was meritorious promoted to both Cpl and Sgt and was the 2nd MAW non-commissioned officer of the Month of Dec. 1998 and Quarter of Oct/Nov/Dec 2001.
SgtMaj Moss reenlisted in Oct of 2002 and soon executed orders to Inspector/Instructor Duty in Des Moines, Iowa. SgtMaj Moss completed OJT for Infantry Rifleman and deployed with E. Co. 2/24 of Des Moines, Iowa as a team leader and was engaged in combat operations from Oct. 04 – Apr. 05.
Following the deployment SgtMaj Moss was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
In 2006, SgtMaj Moss was assigned to 1st Battalion 7th Marines and deployed to Iraq for a second tour as the Adjutant and assisted the Civil Affairs Group with working directly with Iraqi Nationals and other Foreign Dignitaries with Administrative and Accountability Procedures.
Following the deployment, SgtMaj Moss was awarded the Iraqi Campaign Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Following 1/7 SgtMaj Moss served as the Administrative Chief and Training Chief for DBtry 2nd Bn 14th Marines, El Paso, Texas. SgtMaj Moss and his team were instrumental in the preparation and execution of the Btry’s deployment to and redeployment from Afghanistan. SgtMaj Moss also acted as Company 1stSgt in the 1stSgt’s absence and executed duties as the Assistant Family Readiness Officer.
In October of 2010, SgtMaj Moss was assigned recruiting duty, 9th District in Des Moines, Iowa. After three months as a Canvassing Recruiter, SgtMaj Moss was promoted to Detachment Commander (SNCOIC) of Recruiting Sub-Station Des Moines and approximately six months later led the establishment of Recruiting Sub-Station Ames where he completed a tour as Detachment Commander. A year later SgtMaj Moss was promoted to Program’s Specialist, where he completed his tour of Recruiting Duty.
Following Recruiting duty, SgtMaj Moss was ordered to report to Marine Forces Command, Norfolk Va and served as the Security Specialist Chief for approximately nine months and then served as the HQBN Operations Chief until being selected for 1stSgt in the USMC.
Once selected to 1stSgt, SgtMaj Moss was assigned to Charlie Co FAST, Norfolk Va as the Company First Sergeant, providing oversight, mentorship, and preparation to deploy for approximately 390 Marines. SgtMaj Moss received orders to 3D MLG, Okinawa, Japan and was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Transportation Support Bn, Combat Logistics Regiment 3. As a vital instrument to the Regiment, SgtMaj Moss was sent TAD to Combat Logistics Battalion 4 to deploy as Transportation Services Company 1stSgt for Cobra Gold. Hand selected, SgtMaj Moss would finish out his tour as the Company First Sergeant, Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 3 and be transferred to 2D Marine Division, 8th Marines, as the 3d Battalion 8th Marines Battalion SgtMaj.
SgtMaj Moss currently serves as SgtMaj for 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, II Marine Expeditionary Force. SgtMaj Moss has set his career sights on serving as a SgtMaj of a Command Base before retiring to a JROTC program.
