Sergeant Major, 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion
Sergeant Major Thomas M. Viotti

Sergeant Major Viotti was born in Arcadia, CA.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1993 and attended recruit training at 3rd Recruit Training Battalion (RTBN), Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, CA, in March 1994. Private First Class Viotti completed recruit training in May 1994 and reported to Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA where he completed his follow-on training from boot camp.  Upon completion of MCT, Pfc. Viotti reported to the Marine Artillery Scout Observer Course in Fort Sill, OK.  Pfc. Viotti then reported to Naval Gunfire School in Coronado, CA.  After successfully completing his training, he reported to his first command, 3rd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Long Beach, CA.  Pfc. Viotti was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in July of 1999.  Sgt. Viotti completed his obligated service in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves in March of 2000.

On July 2003, Sgt. Viotti re-enlisted into the Active Component of the Marine Corps and later reported to 1st ANGLICO, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA in October 2003.  Sgt Viotti reported to the Fire Support in Marine Air-Ground Task Force Operations School in Fort Sill, OK.  Upon his return to 1st ANGLICO, he served as a Firepower Control Team Chief.  Sgt. Viotti was then deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Supporting Arms Liaison Team B Chief in August of 2004.

In August 2005, Sgt. Viotti was again deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Firepower Control Team Chief. Sgt. Viotti’s team augmented to the II MEF Protective Service Detail until March 2006.

In August of 2006 Sgt Viotti was promoted to Staff Sergeant and assigned the billet of Training Chief for 1st ANGLICO.  Once again, Staff Sgt. Viotti deployed in September 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  

In April 2007, Staff Sgt. Viotti reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Career Course at Camp Pendleton, CA and completed the course in June 2007.   

In July 2007 Staff Sgt. Viotti reported to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, SC.  Staff Sgt. Viotti completed Drill Instructor School in September 2007, and then reported to the Martial Arts Instructor School in October 2007 at Parris Island, SC.    

In November 2007, Staff Sgt. Viotti reported to Company L, 3d RTBN, RTR, MCRD Parris Island, SC.  Staff Sgt. Viotti’s billets included three cycles as a Drill Instructor, two cycles as a Senior Drill Instructor, and five cycles as a Series Gunnery Sergeant.  In January 2010, Staff Sgt. Viotti was promoted to Gunnery Sgt.  Gunnery Sgt. Viotti attended the SNCO Advanced Course at Camp Johnson, NC. Gunnery Sgt. Viotti completed his tour as a Drill Instructor in November 2010.

Gunnery Sgt. Viotti reported to 3rd ANGLICO, December 2010 in Bell, CA where he served on the Inspector and Instructor Staff as the Operations Chief.  In March 2011, Gunnery Sgt. Viotti attended the Basic Airborne School in Ft Benning, GA where he earned his Basic Parachutists Wings.  Gunnery Sgt. Viotti attended the Tactical Air Control Party School in September 2011 where graduated as a Joint Tactical Air Controlman.  He then attended Jumpmaster School in September 2012 at Camp Pendleton, CA.  Gunnery Sgt. Viotti was frocked to 1st Sgt. in April 2013.

1st Sgt. Viotti reported to 1st Battalion, 10th Marines, 10th Marine Regiment in May 2013 at Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as Battery I, 1st Sgt. from May 31, 2013 to Mar 4, 2016.  1st Sgt. Viotti deployed with Battalion Landing Team 3/6, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in December 2014 to July 2015.

In April 2016, 1st Sgt. Viotti reported to 3rd Maintenance Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan and served as Company 1st Sgt. for Electronics Maintenance Company.  1st Sgt. Viotti attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy at Rhode Island in June of 2017.  Upon completion of the Senior Enlisted Academy, 1st Sgt. Viotti was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company as the Company 1st Sgt. until January 2018.

In January 2018, 1st Sgt. Viotti reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd MLG, Okinawa, Japan where he served as Company 1st Sgt. for Headquarters Company until July of 2019.

1st Sgt. Viotti reported to 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, in August 2019 at Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served as Battery 1st Sgt. for Headquarters and Service Battery.

Sergeant Major Viotti was frocked to his current rank in January 2020.

Sgt. Maj. Viotti’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
