Sergeant Major Thresher began his current assignment as the II Marine Expeditionary Force Sergeant Major on 15 December 2016. Enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 1990 and was meritoriously promoted to the ranks of Private First Class, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant and Gunnery Sergeant.

Assignments in the operating forces include: Artillery cannoneer and Section Chief, Echo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. Section Chief, Golf Battery, 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines and Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Battery Gunnery Sergeant with Alpha Battery and Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. First Sergeant, Service Company and Charlie Company, 8th Communications Battalion and later Headquarters and Service Company, II MEF Headquarters Group. Since November 2005, he has served as Sergeant Major, 2nd Radio Battalion, II MEF Headquarters Group. Sergeant Major, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division. Sergeant Major, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Sergeant Major, Camp Courtney and McTureous, Marine Corps Bases, Okinawa, Japan. Sergeant Major, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and most recently serving as the Sergeant Major, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Assignments in the supporting forces include: Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and First Sergeant at Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia.

Deployments and Operations include: Desert Shield/Saber/Storm 1990-91 (Kuwait). Operation Sea Angel 1991 (Bangladesh).  Joint Task Force-6 Counter Narcotics – Santa Monica, CA 1992 / Texas, 1993. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 2003 / OIF 04-06, 2005 / OIF 5-7/681, 2006-07. Combined Arms Exercise (x5) Twenty-nine Palms. Unit Deployment 1992 (Okinawa, Japan).  Bridgeport (Cold Weather x 2, California). Maritime Combined Operations Training (MARCOT) 1997 (Nova Scotia/New Foundland).  Battle Griffin 1997 (Norway). Balikitan 2011 (Philippines). Jungle Training 2008 (Brunei). Ulchi Freedom Guardian (x3) 2010-2012 (Okinawa). Dawn Blitz, 2d MEB (2013).  Noncommissioned Officer Development 2014 (Taiwan). Military Education: SgtMaj is a graduate of the Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy (Sergeant, Career and Advanced Courses with honors). First Sergeants Course. Joint Training Course (JTC), Joint Forces Staff College. Joint and Combined Warfare Course (JCWS) with honors, Joint Forces Staff College. KEYSTONE, National Defense University. Asian Pacific Orientation Course (APOC), Asian Pacific Center for Strategic Studies. Aviation Water Survival Course (All-qualification, all type-model series), Aviation Survival Training Center and the European Security Seminar (ESS-E), George C Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

Civilian Education: He has been awarded a Bachelor in Business Administration and a Masters in Public Policy with honors.

Personal Awards include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal x4, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal x4, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
