Commanding Officer, 2nd Radio Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Jason E. Gwinn

Lieutenant Colonel Jason E. Gwinn is a native of Marietta, Georgia, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2000. After graduating from boot camp, he served with the Parris Island Marine Band and the 2d Marine Division Band, achieving the rank of Sergeant. In December 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Gwinn graduated from Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.

In 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Gwinn joined the 8th Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, serving on a Military Transition Team and as the Battalion Intelligence Officer for 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment.  In 2011, he transferred to the Marine Corps Intelligence Activity in Quantico, Virginia where he led the Afghanistan/Pakistan Branch.

In 2015 LtCol Gwinn received orders to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC and served as the Commander of Charlie Company.  From 2016 to 2019 he served in the Joint Special Operations Command Intelligence Brigade at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 2021 he was assigned to the MAGTF Staff Training Program in Quantico, Virginia where he served in the Operations Branch until June 2024.

LtCol Gwinn’s operational deployments include Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (2005 & 2008), ENDURING FREEDOM (2011), INHERENT RESOLVE (2017), and GALLANT PHOENIX (2018).

His professional military education includes: The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, Ground Intelligence Officer Course, MAGTF Intelligence Officer Course (Honor Graduate), Expeditionary Warfare School (Distinguished Graduate), Marine Corps Command and Staff College (Distinguished Graduate), and the School of Advanced Warfighting.

Lieutenant Colonel Gwinn is married to Courtney Gwinn. They have five children: Jacqueline (17), Jane (16), Joanna (14), Junior (10), and Joseph (6). Lieutenant Colonel Gwinn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Georgia and holds master's degrees in Military Studies and Operational Studies from the Marine Corps University. 

Lieutenant Colonel Gwinn's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Joint Service Commendation Medal; the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars; the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star; and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
