Sergeant Major Joshua K. Miller was raised in Greenfield, Indiana. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1999. Following recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA, and Avionics Common Core training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, where he was assigned the MOS 6300. In June of 2000, Lance Corporal Miller attended the Fleet Replacement Enlisted Skills Training Center at Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC, and upon graduation was given the MOS 6322, CH-46 avionics technician. In September 2000, Lance Corporal Miller reported to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 261, where he served as an avionics technician and collateral duty inspector. In February of 2002, Corporal Miller deployed with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Promoted in December 2002, Sergeant Miller attended the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Sergeant's Course in July 2003 where he was recognized as the honor graduate. In April of 2004, Sergeant Miller was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, to attend Drill Instructor School. Upon completion, Sergeant Miller reported to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion and served six cycles as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In September of 2007, Staff Sergeant Miller transferred to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-264 at Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC, where he served as an avionics technician and maintenance controller. In February, 2008, he attended the Career Course where he was recognized as the honor graduate. In September of 2008, Staff Sergeant Miller deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Landing Forces 6th Fleet operations. In May of 2009, Staff Sergeant Miller attended the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training and transitioned to MOS 6326, MV-22 avionics technician. In July of 2009, Staff Sergeant Miller reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204, where he served as an avionics technician, collateral duty inspector, and quality assurance chief. In November of 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Miller reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron-365, where he served as the quality assurance chief and avionics division SNCOIC in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12-1 in Afghanistan. In February 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Miller attended the Advanced Course where he was recognized as a distinguished graduate. In May of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Miller reported to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he served as the 22d Company Senior Enlisted Leader to the Commandant of Midshipmen. In March of 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Miller was frocked to First Sergeant and transferred to Lima Company, 3d Battalion, 2d Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In February 2015, he deployed as the Lima Company First Sergeant in support of Unit Deployment Program East in Okinawa, Japan. In December of 2015, First Sergeant Miller reported to Service Company, Headquarters Regiment, 2d Marine Logistics Group. In September, 2016 he attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy where he was recognized as the honor graduate. In December of 2016, he reported to Headquarters Company, 2d Marine Logistics Group. In January of 2018, First Sergeant Miller reported to Utilities Instruction Company, Marine Corps Engineer School. In March of 2019 Sergeant Major Miller reported to Site Support, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Baltimore, Maryland as the Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major. In March of 2022 Sergeant Major Miller reported to 2d Intelligence Battalion where he currently serves. Sergeant Major Miller currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston, West Virginia. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
