Sergeant Major Suter was born 9 February 1977, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1995, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in February, 1997. He graduated recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, CA in May 1997; the School of Infantry (Marine Combat Training) in July 1997, and subsequently reported to Marine Corps Communications Electronics School (MCCES), Twenty-Nine Palms, CA. On 1 Aug 1997, Private Suter was promoted Private First Class. On 1 September 1997, Private First Class Suter was assigned as a Field Wireman with Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines.  On 1 November 1997, Private First Class Suter was re-assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion 7th Marines (1/7).  From January 1998 to August 1998, Private First Class Suter completed a Unit Deployment Program (UDP) with 1/7 to Okinawa, Japan during which he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. On 1 October 1998, Lance Corporal Suter was promoted to the rank of Corporal.  From February 2000 to August 2000, Corporal Suter completed a second UDP with 1/7 during which he was promoted to Sergeant. 

In July 2001, Sergeant Suter attended Recruiter’s School at MCRD, San Diego, CA and subsequently executed orders to Recruiting Station Oklahoma City, OK, Recruiting Sub-Station Oklahoma City North.  On 2 July 2003, Sergeant Suter was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In October 2003, Staff Sergeant Suter assumed the duties of Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of Recruiting Substation Dodge City, KS.  In October 2004, he executed orders to Marine Air Support Squadron – 3 (MASS-3), Camp Pendleton, CA for duty as the squadron Wire Chief.

In March 2005, Staff Sergeant Suter attended the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (SNCOA) Career Course in Camp Pendleton, CA.  In October 2005, Staff Sergeant Suter attended Wire Chief School at MCCES, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA.  In November 2005, he attended Electronic Key Management Systems (EKMS) Course in Camp Pendleton, CA, and on 1 February 2006, Staff Sergeant Suter assumed the duties of EKMS manager for MASS-3. 

On 1 October 2006, Staff Sergeant Suter was attached to Marine Air Control Group-38, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron – 163, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  From April 2007 - November 2007, Staff Sergeant Suter was deployed with 13th MEU for contingency operations and in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.  On 1 December 2007, Staff Sergeant Suter was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. 

On 1 March 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Suter executed orders to SNCOA, Sergeants Course, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA where he fulfilled the duties of Faculty Advisor, Physical Training Instructor and SNCOIC. In January 2009 Gunnery Sergeant Suter achieved Master Instructor certification, and was nominated for Instructor of the Year. In April 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Suter attended the Advanced Course at SNCOA Camp Pendleton, CA, and upon return assumed the duties of Deputy Director, Sergeants Course, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA.  In May 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Suter graduated the University of Phoenix with a BS in Management, and assumed the duties of Director, Sergeants Course, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA.

On 15 Dec 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Suter executed orders to Combat Logistics Battalion -7 (CLB-7), MCAGCC, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA where he assumed the duties of First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company. On 23 March 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Suter deployed with CLB-7 in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel, Afghanistan.

On 31 January 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Suter was Frocked to the rank of First Sergeant, and subsequently executed orders to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC, for duty as First Sergeant, Company C. In July 2013, First Sergeant Suter’s company attached to Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, and subsequently deployed with the 22d MEU on 9 February 2014 for contingency operations and in support of Operation New Dawn.  

In January 2015, First Sergeant Suter executed orders to 6th Engineer Support Battalion, Site Support Phoenix, AZ for duty as Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. In November 2016, First Sergeant Suter was selected for promotion to Sergeant Major, and in May 2017, executed orders to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC where he currently serves as battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Suter’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars in lieu of 5th award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Sergeant Major Suter is married to the former Otilia Martinez and has six children: Isabelle (17), Isaac (16), Jacqueline (15), Ezekiel (14), Faith (10), and Noelle (7).
