Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus awards the Marines and Sailors of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade with a Presidential Unit Citation in honor of their action against enemy forces from May 29, 2009 to April 12, 2010 in Afghanistan. Maj. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, International Security Force, Afghanistan, and Sgt. Maj. Ernest K. Hoopii, Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Installations East, deployed with 2nd MEB for a year to southern Afghanistan and represented the unit during the ceremony.
