• Activated 1 June 1949 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Fleet Marine Force, under the administrative control of the 2d Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force
• Elements participated in the Korean war, September December 1950
• Redesignated 1 February 1951 as 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Fleet Marine Force.
• Reassigned during April 1951 to Force Troops, Fleet Marine Force
• Detachments were assigned to each of the Battalion Landing Teams during the interventions in Lebanon, July – October 1958

1960 – 1979

• Elements participated in the landings in the Dominican Republic, April 1965
• Redesignated 1 July 1972 as Separate Brigade Platoon, 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Force Troops, Fleet Marine Force.
• Redesignated 1 June 1975 as 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Force Troops, Fleet Marine Force
• Reassigned during October 1975 to Force Troops/2d Force Service Support Group, Fleet Marine Force
• Detached from Force Troops/2d Force Service Support Group during July 1978

1980 – 1997

• Elements participated as part of the Multinational Peace-keeping Force in Lebanon, August 1982 – February 1984
• Elements participated in the landings on Grenada – Carriacou, October – November 1983
• Elements participated in operations in the Persian Gulf, April 1988
• Reassigned during May 1988 to II Marine Expeditionary Force
