Sergeant Major Miguel Bustos currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) for 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Born on December 21, 1984, in Huntington Park, California, Sergeant Major Bustos enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 2, 2003. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Upon graduation, Private First Class Bustos reported to the School of Infantry-West (SOI-W), earning the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 0311, Infantry Rifleman. He subsequently completed training at the Marine Corps Security Force Training Company, where he earned the MOS of 8152, Basic Security Guard.
In January 2004, he reported to Marine Corps Security Forces Bangor, Washington, where he served in a variety of billets, including Corporal of the Guard.
In December 2005, Corporal Bustos transferred to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. He deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as a Team Leader in July 2006, participating in PHIBLEX/Talon Vision '07. After his promotion to Sergeant, he deployed again in November 2007 as a Squad Leader with the 11th MEU, taking part in Operation Sea Angel II and conducting operations and exercises in Kuwait and the Horn of Africa.
In July 2008, Sergeant Bustos returned to SOI-W for duty as a Combat Instructor with Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), serving as a Rifle Squad Leader, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander. In January 2010, he transitioned to the Headquarters and Instructor Group, serving in the Weapons and Guns section until July 2011.
In August 2011, Sergeant Bustos reported to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. He deployed to Musa Qala, Afghanistan, as a Squad Leader in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where he participated in Operation Branding Iron. Following his promotion to Staff Sergeant in December 2013, he completed two additional deployments with the 31st MEU.
Returning to SOI-W in July 2016, Staff Sergeant Bustos served as a Platoon Commander with Bravo Company, ITB. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in October 2017 and subsequently transferred to the Combat Instructor School. There, he distinguished himself in the billets of Instructor Trainer, Academics Coordinator, and Chief Instructor.
In July 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Bustos was assigned to the Marine Corps Training Mission United Arab Emirates, serving as a Foreign Security Force Advisor for the Presidential Guard Institute Recruit Wing in Al Ain.
He then reported to Field Medical Training Battalion West in August 2020 to serve as the Senior Military Advisor and Operations Chief. Promoted to First Sergeant in January 2022, he reported to Marine Air Support Squadron 3 (MASS-3), serving as the Air Control Company First Sergeant.
In December 2023, he returned to SOI-W ITB, serving as the Company First Sergeant for Delta, H&I, and Mike Companies. In July 2025, First Sergeant Bustos transferred to 8th Communication Battalion, serving as the Charlie Company First Sergeant.
Following his promotion to his current rank in December 2025, Sergeant Major Bustos assumed his post as the CSEL for 2d ANGLICO.
Sergeant Major Bustos’ personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four Gold Stars (in lieu of 5th award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and four Gold Stars (in lieu of 5th award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
