Uh first of all , thanks so 16:08.890 --> 16:11.001 much for uh for taking the time out . 16:11.001 --> 16:13.279 You know , we're all busy schedules to , 16:13.440 --> 16:15.659 to join us today . Normally when we're 16:15.669 --> 16:17.613 out here we have to worry about it 16:17.613 --> 16:19.539 being about 90 degrees and guys 16:19.549 --> 16:22.739 dropping from heat since it's about 40 16:22.750 --> 16:24.972 right now . I'm gonna keep it short and 16:24.972 --> 16:27.139 sweet and kids if I go on too long , I 16:27.139 --> 16:29.250 need you to let me know fair enough . 16:29.979 --> 16:33.330 Um you know , if , if you flip through 16:33.340 --> 16:35.673 about like page five of your , you know , 16:35.673 --> 16:38.109 your program there , uh it shows you 16:38.119 --> 16:41.400 the , the lineage of , you know , 16:41.409 --> 16:44.000 second breeds and , and what a story 16:46.000 --> 16:48.469 fighting on places like one , 16:52.969 --> 16:56.400 the nickname bastards . Kinon SaiPan . 16:57.469 --> 16:59.802 Well , give me a little bit longer . Ok . 16:59.802 --> 17:03.609 Um , and , uh , and how cool it is that , 17:03.619 --> 17:05.959 uh , you know , that pay back 17:12.060 --> 17:14.010 young marines and sailors . 17:18.300 --> 17:21.699 Uh , and it's , it's a fine legacy 17:23.670 --> 17:27.229 sailors . Uh , so , uh , if you would 17:27.269 --> 17:29.819 find joy for a round of applause for 17:29.829 --> 17:31.390 the band and these magnets 17:39.609 --> 17:41.831 and , and how fortunate we are too that 17:41.831 --> 17:45.609 we have uh leaders willing to step 17:45.619 --> 17:48.920 up and serve as well . Right ? And , 17:48.930 --> 17:52.750 and John , you're a guy who was 17:52.760 --> 17:56.640 my most Italian 17:56.689 --> 18:00.430 commander and , and you and your family 18:00.449 --> 18:03.890 exemplify that same sacrifice . You 18:03.900 --> 18:05.956 know , that I think a lot of us know 18:05.956 --> 18:08.178 unfortunately , too well during the Geo 18:08.469 --> 18:09.469 Bachelor 18:14.739 --> 18:17.449 and , and you're so fortunate that we 18:17.459 --> 18:19.626 have people like you when we step up , 18:19.626 --> 18:21.515 a guy who has done everything the 18:21.515 --> 18:23.626 Marine Corps has ever asked of them . 18:23.626 --> 18:26.459 And then more the both the recruiting 18:26.469 --> 18:29.459 drought and the planter out and then 18:29.469 --> 18:31.747 went back to recruiting again when the , 18:32.989 --> 18:35.211 and , and really , you know , did , did 18:35.211 --> 18:37.211 everything that was asked of with a 18:37.211 --> 18:39.211 smile on his face and he approached 18:39.211 --> 18:42.989 command and a lot of the same way . 18:43.510 --> 18:45.677 So I just wanna say you my hats off be 18:45.677 --> 18:47.680 off and , and uh thank you . 18:55.459 --> 18:59.050 Yeah , the really cool things about 18:59.060 --> 19:02.880 this organization more from within 19:02.890 --> 19:05.750 by far than any other service . And how 19:05.760 --> 19:08.339 cool would think sometime back in 1996 19:08.369 --> 19:12.060 19 old PFC Connor was probably 19:12.069 --> 19:14.150 standing out there for a battalion 19:14.160 --> 19:16.216 change of command and , and here you 19:16.216 --> 19:18.609 are and , and that's just awesome 19:20.119 --> 19:22.230 and , and same thing for you and your 19:22.230 --> 19:24.397 family . I'm so appreciative . We have 19:24.397 --> 19:26.508 people like you . This is such a hard 19:26.508 --> 19:28.452 thing to get vetted for command to 19:28.452 --> 19:30.563 begin with , let alone command of a , 19:30.563 --> 19:32.619 what we call a victory unit , active 19:32.619 --> 19:34.675 duty infantry battalion . And it's a 19:34.675 --> 19:36.730 true testament to who you are , Sean 19:36.730 --> 19:38.952 and you're the right guy to lead this . 19:38.952 --> 19:42.339 And I want you to know that from the in 19:42.349 --> 19:44.460 general down for General Odom , our , 19:44.460 --> 19:46.516 our division CG to , to myself , the 19:46.516 --> 19:48.571 whole team is here and we're , we're 19:48.571 --> 19:50.293 behind you . We want you to be 19:50.369 --> 19:52.091 successful . We need you to be 19:52.091 --> 19:54.313 successful because obviously , it's not 19:54.313 --> 19:57.329 about us about all these amazing hair . 19:58.510 --> 20:01.430 Uh So with that folks , uh again , uh 20:02.729 --> 20:03.709 the building 20:07.890 --> 20:09.869 going , they show six . 20:17.140 --> 20:19.800 All right . Uh Thank you , uh General 20:19.810 --> 20:23.709 lively J A bunch 20:23.969 --> 20:26.300 of folks . Uh Thanks for coming . Uh 20:26.310 --> 20:28.310 Thank you to the band and thank you 20:28.310 --> 20:30.640 Marines again . Uh Two weeks in a row . 20:30.650 --> 20:32.761 We've been out here marching around . 20:32.761 --> 20:34.761 Uh So I appreciate uh probably more 20:34.761 --> 20:36.817 drill than you've done since uh boot 20:36.817 --> 20:38.817 camp . Uh You look good . Uh Yeah , 20:38.817 --> 20:40.928 it's a little uh not the same weather 20:40.928 --> 20:42.817 we were expecting . Uh though the 20:42.817 --> 20:45.039 hurricane did hold off and we were able 20:45.039 --> 20:47.039 to be outside a little bit , uh , a 20:47.039 --> 20:48.928 little bit nicer than All right , 20:48.928 --> 20:51.039 thanks everybody for coming . Uh It's 20:51.039 --> 20:50.689 great to see some folks I haven't seen 20:50.699 --> 20:52.921 in a long time , uh , or from different 20:52.921 --> 20:55.255 parts of my career and I appreciate you , 20:55.255 --> 20:57.255 uh , taking the time to come here , 20:57.255 --> 20:59.143 especially in the middle , in the 20:59.143 --> 21:01.255 middle of the week . Um All right , I 21:01.255 --> 21:03.532 got a couple of old folks . Uh , Diane , 21:03.532 --> 21:05.532 Bill Tom . It's a long trip for you 21:05.532 --> 21:04.699 guys . 21:11.310 --> 21:15.270 All right . Uh Mom and dad , uh owe a 21:15.280 --> 21:17.680 lot of my suggests to the foundations 21:17.689 --> 21:19.856 that you gave me . Uh And I'm glad you 21:19.856 --> 21:22.170 can share this . All right , there's 21:22.180 --> 21:23.180 some , 21:27.170 --> 21:29.226 there's some , uh there's some rugby 21:29.226 --> 21:31.448 misfits here . Uh So thank you guys for 21:31.448 --> 21:34.599 bringing me and given me a venue to uh 21:34.609 --> 21:37.219 take out my frustration and aggression 21:37.439 --> 21:39.949 uh in a , uh in a productive , 21:39.959 --> 21:42.300 productive manner . Uh because this job 21:42.310 --> 21:44.477 sometimes is , is can be frustrating . 21:44.477 --> 21:46.643 All right , I got some more . Uh But I 21:46.643 --> 21:48.699 want to talk a little bit about what 21:48.699 --> 21:50.866 this battalion has done in the last 22 21:50.866 --> 21:52.754 months . Uh It started off pretty 21:52.754 --> 21:54.921 hectic and pretty much stayed that way 21:54.921 --> 21:56.754 throughout my oncoming change of 21:56.754 --> 21:58.921 command was postponed a couple of days 21:58.921 --> 21:58.920 because my son was born and I was 21:58.930 --> 22:00.763 flying back and forth to uh Cali 22:00.763 --> 22:03.290 California shortly after that . Our , 22:03.569 --> 22:05.791 our deployment schedule got moved up by 22:05.791 --> 22:07.800 six months . We started adding new 22:07.810 --> 22:10.369 marines at the ra rate while kilo 22:10.380 --> 22:12.619 company was in Bridgeport and Limo 22:12.650 --> 22:15.219 company was in Norway . And it wasn't 22:15.229 --> 22:17.880 until just before wt I in September 22:18.099 --> 22:20.321 when the bulk of the leadership that we 22:20.329 --> 22:22.496 needed to support all of those marines 22:22.496 --> 22:24.718 actually actually arrived . All right . 22:24.718 --> 22:26.885 So the marines that were here from the 22:26.885 --> 22:28.718 very beginning , right . Held it 22:28.718 --> 22:30.829 together and did a great job stepping 22:30.829 --> 22:32.496 up into those roles until the 22:32.496 --> 22:34.273 experience , uh , and personnel 22:34.273 --> 22:36.162 actually arrived to , to form the 22:36.162 --> 22:38.800 battalion for no official service level 22:38.810 --> 22:41.239 training exercise . No problem . All 22:41.250 --> 22:43.790 right , we'll just take uh wt I and 22:43.800 --> 22:46.959 we'll attack two on the 22:48.239 --> 22:50.350 and it up and make sure we've got the 22:50.350 --> 22:52.628 opportunity to do everything we can do , 22:52.628 --> 22:54.949 we need to do . Then we added another 22:54.959 --> 22:58.839 150 marines uh after wt I uh 22:58.849 --> 23:00.960 so their first field of exercise with 23:00.960 --> 23:03.016 the battalion , right was our combat 23:03.016 --> 23:04.960 right in this evaluation before we 23:04.960 --> 23:07.439 deploy . Uh So , and , and the marines 23:07.449 --> 23:09.449 did a great job and performed in an 23:09.449 --> 23:11.560 excellent fashion , especially out at 23:11.560 --> 23:13.910 WT I uh and being able to do all , all 23:13.920 --> 23:15.698 sorts of stuff that most of the 23:15.698 --> 23:17.587 battalion staff leadership myself 23:17.587 --> 23:19.753 included had not done before . At that 23:19.753 --> 23:21.753 scale . We had a little hiccup from 23:21.753 --> 23:24.020 above uh that adjusted our deployment 23:24.030 --> 23:26.252 date . Uh But we made it to , ok , made 23:26.252 --> 23:28.400 it to Okinawa and roll right into the 23:28.410 --> 23:30.577 fight . We were fortunate enough to do 23:30.577 --> 23:32.810 two battalion level exercises with our 23:32.819 --> 23:35.229 allies and partners and you're able to 23:35.239 --> 23:38.050 tangibly see . And I think tie that 23:38.060 --> 23:40.349 back and show the marines the tangible 23:40.359 --> 23:42.670 effects of the real world stuff that we 23:42.680 --> 23:45.109 did and how that contributed to both 23:45.119 --> 23:47.150 the Marine Corps's portion of the 23:47.160 --> 23:50.369 deterrence fight and then also our ally 23:50.380 --> 23:52.719 and allies and partners development 23:53.030 --> 23:55.308 over there as we're trying to get them , 23:55.308 --> 23:58.199 get them up to speed . Uh We returned 23:58.209 --> 24:01.280 less than 30 30 30 days ago and here we 24:01.290 --> 24:04.430 are so out of the past 22 months . Uh 24:04.439 --> 24:07.160 The battalion , the battalion spent 10 24:07.170 --> 24:09.560 of those months , months in the field 24:09.569 --> 24:11.500 or deployed and , and that's not 24:11.510 --> 24:13.677 counting those two company deployments 24:13.677 --> 24:16.000 for training or the company and platoon 24:16.010 --> 24:18.439 field time that we had that 24:19.510 --> 24:22.780 almost almost . Uh It , it's been an 24:22.790 --> 24:25.699 incredible uh pace for the marines and 24:25.709 --> 24:28.270 an incredible sacrifice for uh for the , 24:28.280 --> 24:30.599 for their friends and families uh that 24:30.609 --> 24:32.776 supported them while we were gone . II 24:32.776 --> 24:36.619 I owe a huge debt uh to Mr Dale Kearns . 24:36.630 --> 24:38.819 My retiring deployment , Redness 24:38.829 --> 24:41.680 coordinator who has 30 years of service 24:41.689 --> 24:44.819 to the US army and 16 years of service 24:44.829 --> 24:46.829 to Third Battalion Second Marines . 24:46.959 --> 24:49.040 He's the man who solved all of the 24:49.050 --> 24:51.272 family readiness problems that I didn't 24:51.272 --> 24:55.199 know I had . Right . Uh Thank you . Uh 24:55.290 --> 24:57.234 The battalion's character is gonna 24:57.234 --> 24:59.457 change dramatically in the next several 24:59.457 --> 25:01.568 months as the majority of the marines 25:01.568 --> 25:03.568 and sailors depart or move into new 25:03.568 --> 25:06.660 roles . I I don't have it in me to go 25:06.670 --> 25:09.003 through that forming and storming again . 25:09.003 --> 25:11.226 So Sean , uh , you're coming in at just 25:11.226 --> 25:13.392 the right moment . Uh , and you have a 25:13.392 --> 25:15.503 great opportunity to forge a new team 25:15.503 --> 25:17.880 and sustain the legacy and history , uh , 25:17.890 --> 25:21.400 and reputation of the base . We are 25:21.410 --> 25:24.329 also known as the Bao bastards and , uh , 25:24.349 --> 25:26.589 it sure felt sometimes like we were the 25:26.599 --> 25:29.349 bastards . We are pretty , we're pretty 25:29.359 --> 25:31.581 good . We , we're fighting organization 25:31.581 --> 25:34.800 right now , but this team can solve any 25:34.810 --> 25:38.140 kind of crazy problem issue or last 25:38.150 --> 25:40.280 minute just adjustment that's thrown 25:40.290 --> 25:42.270 its way because we had a lot of 25:42.280 --> 25:45.000 practice . Uh I was lucky enough to 25:45.010 --> 25:47.099 have a great team . Uh And I kept 25:47.109 --> 25:49.680 getting great replacements as those mai 25:49.689 --> 25:53.040 as those marines . I had three opsos . 25:53.140 --> 25:55.800 Uh Kyle Daly , uh Nick Thompson , Kevin 25:55.810 --> 25:58.939 Vanni , I had four exos uh Kevin Fitzy , 26:00.619 --> 26:03.069 Nick Thompson and Will Malone who's out 26:03.079 --> 26:05.760 here now . I'd especially like to thank 26:05.770 --> 26:08.239 second marines , right for taking XO 26:08.250 --> 26:10.139 number two the week we deployed . 26:10.139 --> 26:12.880 Appreciate that . So it was a attitude 26:12.890 --> 26:16.770 challenge . Uh uh Caleb Hoffman Johnson , 26:16.780 --> 26:19.280 Mark E , Kevin Zimmerman , uh the guys 26:19.290 --> 26:21.290 who kept the companies together the 26:21.290 --> 26:23.401 first couple of months after the last 26:23.401 --> 26:26.339 appointment without the NCO staff NCO 26:26.349 --> 26:28.680 leadership that they deserve . And then 26:28.689 --> 26:31.849 my current for the company that took us 26:31.869 --> 26:34.150 in the form of a Colt . No , Ian 26:34.400 --> 26:36.790 Mendoza Matt Johnson , Kevin Vanni and 26:36.800 --> 26:38.689 Dave Allen , right ? Picked those 26:38.689 --> 26:40.856 companies up and took them the rest of 26:40.856 --> 26:44.770 the way through wt I A all 26:44.780 --> 26:47.002 of the staff and officers that , that I 26:47.002 --> 26:50.020 had uh rode tremendously hard and all 26:50.030 --> 26:53.729 did it selfless . Uh gunners , James 27:14.130 --> 27:16.130 Finney and Justin winners , uh both 27:16.130 --> 27:18.670 technical and tactical masters , uh and 27:18.680 --> 27:21.520 creative driven professionals . I appreciate you 27:51.050 --> 27:53.239 saving all of your stories until after 27:53.250 --> 27:54.250 the change 27:57.449 --> 28:01.239 and tests and in where they go , 28:01.310 --> 28:03.329 I lost it . I'm a better 30:57.319 --> 30:59.541 marine . I'm a better officer and I'm a 30:59.541 --> 31:01.541 better person for , for having been 31:01.541 --> 31:03.541 around the people . I have , I have 31:03.541 --> 31:05.790 been around . Uh It takes a village in 31:05.800 --> 31:07.729 my village has been exceptionally 31:07.739 --> 31:11.369 strong uh to the band . You guys are 31:11.380 --> 31:13.658 doing what you do , you're crushing it . 31:13.658 --> 31:17.349 Uh Keep up the good to the marines . I 31:17.359 --> 31:19.415 know the hard work and time that you 31:19.415 --> 31:21.637 have put into this today . Uh First , I 31:21.637 --> 31:23.859 want you to know that it shows you look 31:23.859 --> 31:26.680 great . Um Second , I , I want to 31:26.949 --> 31:29.116 acknowledge that this is , this is not 31:29.116 --> 31:31.282 so much about Colonel Campbell and I , 31:31.282 --> 31:33.393 this is about our battalion . This is 31:33.393 --> 31:35.227 our history traditions are about 31:35.227 --> 31:37.116 acknowledging that we are part of 31:37.116 --> 31:39.227 something larger than ourselves . And 31:39.227 --> 31:41.393 you are representing Third Battalion , 31:41.393 --> 31:43.560 Second Marines today and you are doing 31:43.560 --> 31:43.420 it very well and I appreciate all of 31:43.430 --> 31:45.652 your hard work and all of your effort . 31:45.652 --> 31:49.560 Thank um to the first sergeants uh for , 31:49.569 --> 31:51.513 for making all this happen for the 31:51.520 --> 31:53.687 working party that set this up for the 31:53.687 --> 31:55.853 n for literally everyone that that had 31:55.853 --> 31:57.742 something to do with this uh very 31:57.742 --> 31:59.964 professional if you're representing the 31:59.964 --> 31:59.920 battalion really well , I appreciate it . 32:01.660 --> 32:04.290 Uh John , we know each other before 32:04.300 --> 32:07.010 three weeks ago . I gained an immense 32:07.020 --> 32:09.076 amount of respect for you in a short 32:09.076 --> 32:11.076 time . Turning over a really strong 32:11.076 --> 32:13.187 Italian , I hope proud and I hope you 32:13.187 --> 32:15.131 can spend some more time with your 32:15.131 --> 32:17.390 family moving forward . Um I will blame 32:17.400 --> 32:21.140 you for everything that happened , the 32:21.199 --> 32:21.770 personal 32:26.540 --> 32:29.099 um and then the final thing you brought , 32:29.109 --> 32:31.276 brought me a little weird , but I want 32:31.276 --> 32:33.387 to thank the Grand selection . Marine 32:33.387 --> 32:36.569 Corps has far more highly qualified , 32:36.579 --> 32:39.239 really capable , really high performing 32:39.250 --> 32:41.250 lieutenant colonels than it has man 32:41.250 --> 32:43.139 bills for those individuals . For 32:43.139 --> 32:45.459 whatever reason I made the cut and I , 32:47.619 --> 32:49.619 I'm gonna start wrapping this up by 32:49.619 --> 32:51.730 just acknowledge , been an idealist . 32:51.730 --> 32:54.680 So 23 years in , I still really believe 32:54.689 --> 32:56.859 in what the Marine Corps does and what 32:56.869 --> 32:59.750 we stand for . I think what we do in 32:59.760 --> 33:01.482 the world , our training , our 33:01.482 --> 33:03.316 readiness , our preparation , it 33:03.316 --> 33:05.371 matters . It makes a difference . We 33:05.371 --> 33:07.538 don't see it every day , but it does , 33:07.538 --> 33:09.649 it does make a tangible difference in 33:09.689 --> 33:11.633 and our values , honor , courage , 33:11.633 --> 33:13.633 commitment . Uh More so than that . 33:13.633 --> 33:16.229 Just the idea of service of 33:16.239 --> 33:19.530 selflessness and sacrifice of striving 33:19.540 --> 33:21.762 towards a collective good and something 33:21.762 --> 33:24.109 bigger than yourself . Um I , I think 33:24.119 --> 33:26.341 it's important . I'm proud to be a part 33:26.341 --> 33:28.508 of it . I'm encouraged that there's so 33:28.508 --> 33:30.563 many young men and women , um , like 33:30.563 --> 33:30.430 those behind us that are still willing 33:30.439 --> 33:32.606 to put their hand in the air and , and 33:32.606 --> 33:34.661 opt into this lifestyle because it's 33:34.661 --> 33:37.189 not easy . Um , it's challenging but 33:37.199 --> 33:39.255 it's something that needs to be done 33:39.255 --> 33:41.689 and it is , it is worthwhile . Um , and 33:41.699 --> 33:43.890 if you do it right , you take more out 33:43.900 --> 33:46.011 of it than you will ever be able to , 33:46.011 --> 33:48.760 to give back . Um , I'm gonna wrap this 33:48.770 --> 33:51.103 up before I start rambling further . Uh , 33:51.103 --> 33:53.270 I appreciate the opportunity and thank 33:53.270 --> 33:53.069 you . 34:02.260 --> 34:03.260 Sorry . 35:11.580 --> 35:12.580 Ready . 35:43.520 --> 35:44.520 Got it . 35:55.909 --> 35:56.909 Right . 36:17.929 --> 36:19.679 No . Right . 36:36.590 --> 36:37.590 Right . 36:53.330 --> 36:53.570 At the design .
