U.S. Marine Cpl. James Juarez, left, and Sgt. Nicholas Pirrone, Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, review notes on a suspect during Visit, Board, Search and Seizure training aboard the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43). The Marines practiced boarding and searching a compliant vessel while implementing proper detainee handling. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
