Executive Officer, 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion
Major Daniel J. Burton

Major Burton was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001. After graduating from Recruit Training and MCT, he served as a radio operator with 24th Marines, 4th MARDIV. In 2003, he transferred to Marine Corps Mobilization Command where he worked in the G-8 as a Financial Management Technician. In 2007, Major Burton applied for and was accepted through the Enlisted Commissioning Program. Major Burton attended OCS in 2007 and TBS in 2008. 

After graduating MOS school, Major Burton reported to MWSG-37 as the Military Police Liaison, coordinating the stand-up of the 3d MAW MP Company. In January of 2009, Major Burton augmented MWSS-371 as their Incident Response Platoon Commander. In March of 2009 he deployed with the Squadron in support of OEF. After returning from deployment, he was assigned as the 3d MAW Military Police Company Commander, tasked with the initial forming of the Company within the MAW.

In 2011, Major Burton received orders to MCB Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan, working for the Provost Marshal Office as the Operations Officer.  In 2013, he was assigned as the Deputy Provost Marshal and in 2014, took over as the interim Provost Marshal. Upon successfully completion of his tour in Okinawa, Major Burton was selected to attend the Military Police Captains Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Upon completion of the Captains Career Course, Major Burton was assigned to Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. There he formed the Military Police Officer Basic Course, the MOS school for all newly assigned Marine Corps Military Police Officers. Upon completion of his assignment as the Officer in Charge for the MP Officer Basic Course, Major Burton was selected for Command and Staff College, Quantico, Virginia.

After graduating Command and Staff College in 2018, Major Burton was assigned to 2d Law Enforcement Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and assumed the role as Executive Officer.
