Brigadier General Michael E. Langley attended the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in Information Systems Analysis.  He entered PLC Program in 1982 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1985.  

Brigadier General Langley's command and IOC billets: Guns Platoon Commander, Battery H, 3rd Battalion, 10th  Marines; Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines; Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines; Battery K, 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines;  Inspector-Instructor Battery K, 4th Battalion, 14th Marines, Huntsville, AL;  3rd Battalion, 12th Marines;  12th Marines Regiment;  201st Regional Corps Advisory Command-Central, ISAF, Afghanistan ; OIC Special Operations Training Group,  III MEF;  Assistant Division Commander, 3d Marine Division; Regional Support Command-Southwest, ISAF, Afghanistan; ANA 215th Corps Advisor Team OIC, RC Southwest, ISAF, Afghanistan .

Brigadier General Langley's staff assignments: Division Officer, Marine Corps Institute, Marine Barracks, 8th and I, Washington, DC; G-1B, 1st Marine Division;  Liaison Officer, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines; NSFS Requirements Officer in the Expeditionary Warfare Division (N75), Joint Integration Officer in the Surface Warfare Division (N76) Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV); Action officer, Policy Division, Strategic Plans & Policy Directorate (J-5); Iraq Desk Officer, Joint Staff Response Cell, J-3 Operations Directorate; Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff;  Assessments Branch Head (PA&E) Programs & Resources, Headquarters Marine Corps; Deputy Director for Operations, J3, Joint Staff.

Brigadier General Langley has attended The Basic School; Officer Basic Artillery School; Amphibious Warfare School; Command and Staff Course, Naval War College, Newport, RI; Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

His decorations include: Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with 2 gold stars, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.
