Battalion Sergeant Major, II MEF Support Battalion
Sergeant Major Zane Moorman

   Sergeant Major Moorman enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 2006. He attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island; he was promoted meritoriously to Private First Class upon completion. Following recruit training and Marine Combat Training, he attended Field Radio Operator School at 29 Palms, California, and graduated with the 0621 MOS.

   In August 2006, he reported to 12th Marine HQ Battery Okinawa, Japan, where here served as a Radio Operator. In September 2007, Corporal Moorman attended the Martial Arts Instructor Course, where he received the MOS 0916 and was the recipient of the gung-ho award. In March 2008, Corporal Moorman deployed to Afghanistan with Embedded Training Team 4-3, Regional Corps Advisory Command-Central, 201st Corps, Afghan National Army, in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted to Sergeant in November 2008.

   In February 2009, Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Battalion 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division, where he served as the
Radio Supervisor and the Platoon Sergeant for the Communications Platoon. In December 2009, he deployed with 1st
Battalion, 6th Marines to Marjah, Afghanistan, and was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Staff Sergeant in June 2010.

   In January 2011, Staff Sergeant Moorman attended Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island; he graduated as the
honor graduate and received the leadership award for class 2-11. After completing Drill Instructor School, Staff Sergeant
Moorman served as a Drill Instructor with 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Delta Company.

   In September 2012, Staff Sergeant Moorman reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 6 and assumed duties as the Battalion
Radio Chief. In July 2013, he deployed to Afghanistan with Combat Logistics Battalion 6 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. In January 2014, he was assigned to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.

   In October 2015, Staff Sergeant Moorman attended Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island; he graduated as the
honor graduate and received the leadership award for class 1-15. After completing Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Echo Company. He served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and Regimental Drill Master. Staff Sergeant Moorman was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in July 2016.

   In July 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Moorman reported to 9th Communication Battalion, serving as the Transmissions Platoon
SNCOIC, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company. Gunnery Sergeant Moorman
was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in February 2020.

 In February 2020, First Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as
the Company First Sergeant for Charlie Company. In September 2020, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th
Marine Expeditionary Unit, WestPac 21-1, in support of OPERATION OCTAVE QUARTZ.

 In July 2021, First Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Raider Regiment, where he
served as the Company First Sergeant for Marine Special Operations Company D and deployed in support of OPERATION OCTAVE QUARTZ. First Sergeant Moorman was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major in February 2023.

   In March 2023, Sergeant Major Moorman reported to II MEF Support Battalion, II MEF Information Group, where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

   Sergeant Major Moorman's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ 1 gold star, and the Combat Distinguishing Device and the Combat Action Ribbon.
